Major Landmarks

Ackia Battleground in northeastern Mississippi is the state's only National Monument.  It marks the battleground where the British troops and the Chickasaw Indians defeated the French troops and the Choctaw Indians in 1736.  The battle prevented the French from gaining control of the entire Mississippi Valley.

The Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi is one of the most interesting churches in the South.  This ivy-covered Episcopal church, built in 1890, is Gothic style.  A Confederate flag is draped over the pew of Jefferson Davis.
