A reflective white base and colorful black letters show off  the colorful state shield on Maryland's current plates.  For an extra fee, drivers may switch to a fund-raising plate for the Chesapeake Bay. Certain group members may also choose from more than 70 different specialty plates. These plates use a group letter code.
