Northern Oriole
 
    This bird is the state bird of Maryland.  The male is often called a Baltimore Oriole, because it has the colors of the Baltimore family who settled Maryland.  The bird's nest was called a "fiery hang nest". The word "Hangnest" comes from the bird's baglike nest.
