Indiana's State Flag

Indiana's State Flag shows a golden torch with seven rays and 19 stars against a field of blue.  The torch and its rays represent freedom and the spreading of enlightenment or wisdom.  A large star above the torch represents Indiana.  The remaining 18 stars symbolize the states that were part of the United States before Indiana's admission to the Union in 1816.  The designer won a contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
