Major Landmarks


Craters Of The Moon National Monument is in south-central Idaho. This weird region has a number of volcanic cones, craters, lava flows, caves, natural bridges, and other unusual sights. It was established as a monument in 1924.

Hells Canyon, one of North America's scenic wonders, is a 6,000 foot deep gorge, cut by the Snake River.
 

Fort Hall, on the Snake River, was built by Nathaniel Wyeth in 1834. It later became an important trading post on the Oregon Trail.
 

Electricity from Atomic Energy was generated for the first time in the world at Arco's atomic research plant in 1951.
