Iowa History


1. Herbert Hoover was born at West Branch.  He was the 31st President of the United States. He was born August 10, 1874. He had two children and one wife.  He died October 20, 1964. Hoover lived to be 90 years old.

2.  A band of Sioux Indians killed 32 people and carried four women in captivity at Spirit Lake in 1857.

3. Iowa established the nation's first center to study child development at Iowa City in 1917.

4.   William Fredrick "Buffalo Bill" Cody was born in Scot County, Iowa,on February 26, 1846. He settled on a ranch in Wyoming after 1894.
