Famous People

Hank Aaron was born in Mobile in 1934. He was a famous baseball player. He started with the Milwaukee Braves and ended his career with the Atlanta Braves.  He broke the all-time home run record – 755.

 

Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia in 1880. When she was only a year and a half old she got sick. She became deaf and blind. She learned many things. She also attended college.

In Mobile Bay, the Alabama Battleship is anchored.

Bellingrath Gardens is in Mobile. It is famous for azaleas and chrysanthemums.

Sequoyah Caverns is in Valley Head.  It is known for its many rock formations and lakes.
 
 

Events

Interesting events in Alabama include the Birmingham Festival Of Arts, the W.C. Handy Music Festival, and the National Shrimp Festival.
 
 

National Parks

    Among Alabama's national parks are Horseshoe Bend Military Park and Natchez Trace Parkway.  Horseshoe Bend is located near Dadeville.  It marks the spot where Andrew Jackson defeated the Creek Indians in 1814.  Natchez Trace Parkway between Natchez, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee.  It runs through northwest Alabama.  It follows a route that was used by pioneers to return north after floating  goods down the Mississippi River on flatboats.
