Our Pygmy Marmoset Story - Meta's Adventure

The Powerful Pygmies has submitted an addition to our story. Mon Apr 1 02:37:45 EST 2002

One day, while Meta was swinging through the rainforest, she saw a big truck. She quietly approached the truck from a safe distance from above to see what it was doing in her home. As she approached, she saw two men who were out of the truck talking. Slowly she tried to get closer to hear what they were saying. Luckily, the rainforest is pretty noisy and as she climbed down, the two men ignored her completely. She was able to get very close without them even noticing her presence. She saw that they had these papers out and when she could hear, she heard one man say, "This will be a perfect spot to start cutting. With all these trees, we'll fill our quota for this month which is five tons of wood." Meta was terrified! They were planning to cut down her home! Meta climbed up and headed home as fast as she could.

When Meta arrived at her family's tree, Meta told the horrible news to her mother; Mary. The word spread quikly through the forest and Meta's family gathered up 30 or so pygmy marmosets of every age to help stop the destruction.

The pygmies created sheilds against the people out of wood. They made them out of hard wood so they wouldn't break. Then the pygmies gathered very pointy sticks and started edging toward the trucks and the people. They sent about 5 pygmies to poke holes in the truck's tires and the rest went to distract the people.

When the people got to the forest, they were greeted by the showering of fruits and other things the pygmies made. They had never seen this before in their life.

The people were really surprised and they ran away in fear of lepards or some fearsome beast, but it was only the pygmy marmosets protecting their territory which happens to be less than 2.5 acres.

But as they were running, one of the pygmy marmosets jumped in front of them and said, "Now you won't chop down forests again, will you?"The men said, "nuh-uh! Never again!"As they left the forest, the man smartest man said, "I've never seen a species do such a thing! It's amazing!"

The 2 men went home but soon as they did they told every one in there small town about it! About 2 months latter the pygmies heard a sound that sounded like a car! But since thy had never really heard a car they called it loud thing! Meta said I think it's a ;lou thing back again! maybe we shpuld check! Mason and Meta went to chacl while the others made tools ju8st in case!

As Meta and Mson cmae thaw the trees toward the sound they same not a loud thing but a oud thing with wings on it! Now we would havwe normally called it aplane but they hadn't ever sceen 1 of those either! They decided 2 call it fly thing! They liked this and decided sijnce it had been deserted 2 try it out! Mason climbed in the drivers seat and pressed the button that said ON! He also pressed the 1 saying cruise controll! Right as Meta and Mason were putting there seat beltson(more like playing with them) the plane blsted off! They went strait up and soon with Mason's confuseing stesring and pressing of buttons the plane was going in cicles and the guys on the ground were yelling "give us our plane bacvk! Now i believe the tail that you are evil moinkeys!" and down below the family had decided that they needed to save Meta and Mason! They had no clue what to do and decided to jump into a tree! They did and landed perfectly! The plane still flew around and finally crashed! The guys ran away and never came back!

Meta and his family have once again saved their home from being torn down by greedy people looking to strip the rainforest of it's natural beauty to make fuel for their loud things and flying things. Meta pauses and thinks... then he says, "There has to be a way for us to live safe and happy in our home without the fear of our house being cut down AND for people to have the fuel for energy that they need... there just has to be other sources of fuel for "people". Meta and Mason started watching the stars at nite. They dreamed of ways to get energy from the stars to power people's homes and cars. They came up with a great idea. They went to the pond and by creating a series of dams and streams. When they were done the pond was shaped liek a giant magnifying glass. Everytime the sun hit it sparks flew off and all the animals had to wear sunglasses when the got within 20 miles. Next they went to a waterfall the hill and built another mirror. This mirror reflected the light from the pond to a spot down on the beach. All the people near the beach went wild. They now had hot water for hot tubs, showers and jaccuzzis. They now have a resort on the site called pygmy haven.

Someone said,"Run for your lives! Take the children and some food and get out of here, unless you want to be eaten alive!" So they ran as fast as they could, but the cheetas kept following them! Meta saw a bird flying by and it was as if the bird wasleading them. Meta was infatuated! She decided to trust the bird and told the others to, also. They stumbled and ran, butthanks to their abilities to climb trees, they got safely to another destination. The only problem now was...the bird wasgone and they were lost!

Secretly she knew they would never find there way back so she suggested to Mason that they make a home here and hope the others find them. He said it was the best idea all day.

For example I was surprised when you or some other marmosets gathered to give those woods men an ultimatum My message to those men who like to destroy your homes leave them alone. It is proper for any marmoset to protect the other ones. I first heard of the pygmy marmoset in 2001 on a video when I was watching Amazon and the forest floods. Good Afternoon,Iam trying to picture myself holding a pygmy marmoset. After the pictures I have seen of other marmosets in two pictures it is hard to believe they can be held in a person's hand.
