Hello:

Thank you for contacting McDonald's about the environment. Like you, we care about the
environment and are always looking for ways to preserve it. I appreciate this opportunity to
share the following information with you.

McDonald's has always been committed to the preservation of rain forest land. We have never
used beef from cattle grown on rain forest land and never will. McDonald's does not, has not
and will not permit destruction of tropical rain forests for our beef supply. We do not, have not
and will not purchase beef from rain forest or recently deforested rain forest land. This policy
is strictly enforced and closely monitored.

We carefully check and double-check the quality and the origin of all the beef we buy. Any
supplier who deviates from our strict specifications -- or who cannot prove compliance with
them -- will be immediately discontinued.

We also invite environmental groups to review our beef purchasing practices and inspect our
records. Both Conservation International and the Smithsonian Institution have inspected our
beef purchasing records.

Additionally, to respond to the thousands of questions we receive from students each year, we
have developed a comprehensive booklet about our company entitled "Welcome to McDonald's," which can be found on our website at:

financial, history, international, food and much more. We tried to anticipate and respond to as
many areas of interest for students as possible. If the information you're requesting is not in
"Welcome to McDonald's" or in other sections of our website, then it is considered proprietary
and presently not available to the public.
