Description: The Stonefish is a greenish brown color. It looks like a rock. It has 13 grooved spines on its back. It is 30 centimeters long. It looks like a rock and can also be called a rockfish.
Habitat: It usually lives above the Tropic of Capricorn on coral reefs. It just lies dormant in the sand or mud.
Diet: The Stonefish eats small fish or shrimp.
# Of Young: It lays eggs. It may produce a million eggs but only a small proportion survives to maturity. The eggs stay in the female’s body until they hatch. When hatchlings are released into the water many fall prey to other fish.
Enemies: One of their enemies is the human being.
Weird and Wild Facts: The Stonefish is actually a Titan Scorpion fish. It spits water.
