Earth is the third planet from the sun. From space, Earth looks like a giant round ball with white, blue, and yellowish brownish colors. Seventy percent of the Earth is water. Some people think the Earth should be called the ocean planet. Some of the white spots on the Earth are ice and snow. About thirty percent of the Earth is land. Continents are the largest landmasses in the world. The little landmasses that are completely surrounded by water are called islands. Mountains are formed by tall masses of dirt and rock that rises out of the ground. The Earths largest mountain is Mount Everest, it is about five in a half miles above sea level. Earth has dry parts of the land called deserts. Earth also has steamy tropical rain forests. In cold parts of the world there are huge ice masses called Glaciers. There are some unique things about Earth for instance Earth is the only planet that we know of that has life, water, plants, and Earth is the only planet with one moon. The Earth is always spinning. It mostly takes twenty four hours to spin one time. When it spins the sun shines on different parts of the Earth creating day and night.. The Earth is 7,909 miles round it is bigger than Pluto because Pluto is only 1,860 miles round.
