How Old Are You on Mercury?

Every planet takes a different amount of time to rotate around the sun. The Earth takes 365.26 or 1 Earth year to rotate around the sun.  Some of the other planets take less than one Earth year and others take several Earth years to rotate around the sun.

The question here is how old would you be if you were born on Mercury, Pluto, or any of the other planets. Use the following information to figure out how old you would be if you were born on each of the other planets. These are big numbers so you might want to use a calculator.

  1. First, you need to figure out how many Earth days you are.

To do this, multiply your age in years by 365.26; then add the number of days that have passed since your last birthday.

Example: You are eight years old, and 28 days have passed since your birthday. Multiply 8 x 365.26; then ad 28.

(8 x 365.26) + 28 = days old

2922.08 + 28 = days old

2950.08 = days old

Use the space below to calculate your age in Earth days.

____________ x 365.26 + _______________ = ______________

    (age in years)                                   (days since last birthday)         (age in Earth days)

  1. Now to find out how old you would be on the other planet take the number of Earth days in each planets year. Divide this number into your age in Earth days.

Example: If you are 2950.08 days old, divide 2950.08 by 88 (Mercury year) to determine your age on Mercury

2950.08 ÷ 88 = 33.5  Your would be 33 ½ years old.

Record your answer below each planet.

Mercury = 87.97    Venus = 224.7        Earth = 365.26
