King Yertle the ruler of a pond. He turned his wonderful kingdom into a tiresome place. He got this idea, that turned himself into a dictator. He wanted to rule everything, so he thought up a plan. He would stack turtles on top of each other, and then he could rule all he could see. That's exactly what he did, and when he was up there he could see for miles. He wasn't satisfied with all that he could see. So he gathered more turtles, and stacked them up even higher. Then trouble brewed on the bottom of the stack. It was a turtle named Mack. He got mad at King Yertle. He wasn't mad because Yertle wanted to rule all the he could see. He understood, it was the fact that the turtles in the stack were being treated unfairly. Mack expressed this to the king who promptly shut him up. This burp shook the whole stack, and made them fall down. Now Yertle the Turtle is king of the mud, and all the turtles are free just like all creatures should be."
