Sahara Desert

 

 

The Sahara Desert is the largest desert in the world! It covers 3 1/2 million square miles (9 million square kilometers), and is roughly the size of the U.S.A. It extends more than 3,500 miles and more than 1,200 miles from north to south. The desert goes from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Red Sea. The average rainfall is less than 4 inches, and in some areas less than 1 inch.!!! The average temperature in the summer is about 90 degrees Fahrenheit and some times up to 110 degrees. In the winter it is 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest recorded temp. was 136 degrees in Al Aziziyah.
