The Rosetta Stone was found by an officer in Napolean's army in 1799 near Rosetta, Egypt. The stone has inscriptions of three ancient languages: ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, demotic, and Greek. Jean Francois Champolion used the Rosetta Stone to figure out the meaning of the Egyptian hieroglyphs.
