King Hatshepsut(woman)

King (Queen) Hatshepsut was born around 1500 B.C. and was king of the XVIII (18th) Dynasty. Hatshepsut ruled Egypt around the years of 1479B.C.- 1458B.C. Hatshepsut's father's name was Tuthmose I who had a son named Tuthmose II which was Hatshepsut's half brother whom she had to marry. When she married him he got crowned King of Egypt. When Tuthmose II died, his child Tuthmose III (from another wife) had to have Hatshepsut be his guardian to watch over him at the throne. They ruled together until 1473 B.C., when she declared herself pharaoh. Hatshepsut dressed in men's clothing. She is shown wearing a man's beard. Before she died, she built her own temple at Deir el-Bahri (a mountain area) which was near the city of Thebes. When Tuthmose the III held a revolt in 1458 B.C. she disappeared. Some people think Tuthmose III had married Hatshepsut's daughter when she died. Others believe he found someone else named Hatshepsut who was not related to King Hatshepsut.
