Anubis

Anubis is represented as a man with a black dog's head (jackal) or as a black dog. Anubis is totally human in shape. Anubis was not a god of the dead, in the sense that he was the ruler of the underworld. In the Early Dynastic period, Anubis was associated with the care of the dead and was credited with the invention of embalming, an art he first practiced on the corpse of Osiris. Later he was given the role of leading souls into the underworld.
