Barbara Woodford

Assistant Curator of Education & Public Relations and Marketing

What kinds of things do you do at the Brandywine Zoo?
I do many interesting and different things.  For the most part, I work in the education department as Assistant Curator.  During any given week I create and write educational programs for children ages 18 months through adults.  I teach many different kinds of
programs like our outreach programs (The Traveling Zoo), Discovery Tours for children in school and small groups, Family Programs that are created especially for children 18 months to 11 years, and I also coordinate the Summer ZooCamps.  I help oversee the Docent Program and the Traveling Zoo Naturalists, making sure that they have the tools they need to get their jobs done.
I also work closely with the Curator of Education and other education staff to make Brandywine Zoo's Wildlife & Conservation Education fun and interesting. If you ever get a chance to attend one of our programs, I think you will agree that we have an important message to teach people and making it fun helps people enjoy learning about our WILD world.
As part of the job of Marketing and Public Relations, I talk to people in the media such as newspapers, radio, magazine and TV stations.  I do a  great deal of writing for this part of my job.  I write press releases, copy for print ads, radio commericials, fundraising letters and public service announcements.  My job is to let people know what is going on here at the Brandywine Zoo, such as special events, important business changes, new animals, ZooCamps and Family Programs.  I work closely with the Zoo Director, Curator of Education and State Parks Public Relations personnel.
