Animal Language

People often use figurative language, such as similes and metaphors, that compares human behavior and feelings to animals. A simile compares two unlike things, using the word like or as. The comparison creates an image. For example, someone who is very hungry is as hungry as a bear.
A metaphor is like a simile except it doesn't use the words like or as. It asks the reader to picture one thing as if it were the other thing. For example, someone who is clumsy is a bull in a china shop.

Below are some quizzes for you to test your knowledge of animal similes and other figurative language. For the similes there are blanks where the adjectives would be and clues, if you can't guess the correct adjective right away. For the other figurative language quiz there are blanks for the nouns and clues for the nouns, if you can't answer right away.
