Disappearing Animals

You can make animals disappear and reappear with one movement of your hand. You need:
envelope, someone or some thing to slit open the envelope, ruler, pencil, a sheet of construction paper, a pair of sharp pointed scissors, and either crayons or fine point markers.
   1. Either you or an adult slit open both sides of the envelope.
    2. Unfold the envelope and draw a line all the way across the top of the envelope 1/2 inch from the crease. Do the same thing at the bottom of the envelope. Be sure to make that line 1/2 inch from the bottom crease.
    3. Use your ruler and make a mark along the top line 1 inch from the left side of the envelope. Make the next mark 1/2 inch from that mark and contine to do this every 1/2 inch until you have 10 marks on the top line. The last one should be 1 inch from the right side of the envelope. Do the exact same thing on the bottom line.
    4. Hold your ruler vertically and connect the marks on the top line with the marks on the bottom line.
    5. Make an X in the first half inch space. Skip one space and put an X in the next space. You should have 5 X's, one in every other space.

    6. Very carefully, cut out all spaces with the X's.
    7. Refold the envelope and seal the flap.
    8. Cut a strip of construction paper 7 inches long and 3 and 3/8 inches wide.
    9. Put that strip of paper in the envelope through one of the slits on the end. You should be able to slide the paper back and forth easily.
    10. Place the envelope  flat on your desk. The construction paper should be even on the left side. In the 5 spaces draw an animal from the zoo. Try to keep the paper from moving.
    11. After you finish the first drawing, move the paper to the left until the animal disappears. Now draw another animal in those blank spaces, just like you did before. It can even face a different direction. You may either color the animals while the paper is in the envelope or take it out to color it if it is easier for you.
    12. To make your animal appear and disappear, hold the envelope in one hand, and slowly move the paper to the right until that animal disappears. Another animal has taken its place. Now push the paper to the left, the second animal disappears and the first one is back.
