After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese Americans were discriminated against. Signs were put up all across America saying "No Japs Allowed!" The Japananese Americans on the west coast were put into internment camps. Are we living these unjust acts again? Since
September
11th, the
Arab-American community has experienced hate
crimes, different forms of discrimination, and
important civil liberties concerns. There have been
many reports from minor discriminations to
murder. Conference to
discuss hate crime laws... Discrimination towards Arab-Americans is a definite affect of Sept. 11. Types of discrimination against the Arab Americans are airline racism, employment discrimination, law enforcement profiling, and tensions in schools. Twenty-seven cases
have been confirmed by the ADC ( Arab-American Anti
Discrimination Committee) of airline racism.
Arab-Americans have been expelled from air crafts
before or during boarding on ground. Simply because
passengers or crew do not like the way they look.
The ADC has gotten several hundred cases of
employment discrimination including many
impeachments against Arab-Americans since Sept. 11.
Numerous cases have been reported by the ADC
involving Arab-Americans being searched and
questioned by the police for no obvious reason,
except how they look and their beliefs. In some
parts of the U.S., Arab-American students have
problems with other students, and in some cases
teachers and administrators. Airline
racism... Serious concerns about civil liberties in the United States for Arab-Americans and immigrants from the Arab and Muslim worlds have been raised by the U.S. Patriot Act.
