 Hate Crimes

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese Americans were discriminated against. Signs were put up all across America saying "No Japs Allowed!" The Japananese Americans on the west coast were put into internment camps. Are we living these unjust acts again?

Since September 11th, the Arab-American community has experienced hate crimes, different forms of discrimination, and important civil liberties concerns. There have been many reports from minor discriminations to murder.

Conference to discuss hate crime laws...

There were five-hundred-twenty violent incidents, or also called hate crimes, directed against Arab-Americans, or others recognized to be Arab-Americans, since Sept. 11. These are described as acts of physical violence or as direct threats of particular acts of violence. There has been at the least six murders, all of the people murdered having an Arab
ethnicity. These acts have been unplanned, unrehearsed, and without geographical concentration.

Discrimination towards Arab-Americans is a definite affect of Sept. 11. Types of discrimination against the Arab Americans are airline racism, employment discrimination, law enforcement profiling, and tensions in schools.

Twenty-seven cases have been confirmed by the ADC ( Arab-American Anti Discrimination Committee) of airline racism. Arab-Americans have been expelled from air crafts before or during boarding on ground. Simply because passengers or crew do not like the way they look. The ADC has gotten several hundred cases of employment discrimination including many impeachments against Arab-Americans since Sept. 11. Numerous cases have been reported by the ADC involving Arab-Americans being searched and questioned by the police for no obvious reason, except how they look and their beliefs. In some parts of the U.S., Arab-American students have problems with other students, and in some cases teachers and administrators.

Airline racism...

Serious concerns about civil liberties in the United States for Arab-Americans and immigrants from the Arab and Muslim worlds have been raised by the U.S. Patriot Act. The U.S. Patriot Act provides explanation and some analysis including those devoted to money laundering, immigration and providing for the victims of terrorism.
