On Tuesday, July 27, 2001, the Enchanted Lake Elementary School Thinkquest Team went to visit The 442nd Clubhouse in Honolulu, Hawaii. We interviewed retired veteran, Kats Miho, for facts about the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and his experiences in the war.

Most of us asked asked questions about the 442nd, and Mr. Miho recalled each event as if it had happened yesterday! He gave us a lot of information on the training, concentration camps, and all the things that the Japanese-Americans of the time went through.

We went to a special room called the Archives that allows only 442nd club members. We were permitted in because we have great respect and interest for the 442nd soldiers. We honor their bravery and courage. The clubhouse members happily let us view and hold the artifacts. We saw the medals, helmets, jackets and pictures of the battles the 442nd fought in. There were medals like the Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, Gold, Silver and Bronze Star, etc. We were astonished to see how many medals there were.

We saw pictures of how the people in the war had suffered and fought, mountains they climbed and hills they trudged over. Also, there were photos of the great deeds they accomplished. Although the photographs were old and worn out, we could still see the meaning behind them. The archives taught us a lot about the 442nd.

We were surprised to learn that so many people from Hawaii fought in the war. It was sad to know that so many Japanese- American soldiers died.

Interviews are one of the best ways to learn new information. Thanks to Mr. Miho, we gained much knowledge on the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
