I Can Do Something To Prevent Prejudice
by Joshua M.

There is a lot of prejudice in the world. Sometimes it seems like I (all alone by myself) can't make much of a difference. But I am learning that one person can make a big difference.

I can have the courage to help other people be aware of the problems. People can do things to make people aware of issues like a peace walk. Although it doesn't solve the problem, it makes people aware. There is a Hassidic Saying: "When a person is singing and cannot lift his voice, and another comes and sings with him, the first will be able to lift his voice too. That is the secret of the bond between persons." People who are working together can make a bigger difference than just one person alone.

We can talk to people and let them know how we feel about prejudice. Talking is good. In school or with your parents having a place you feel safe to talk about sensitive issues. We should try to treat all people kindly, it shouldn't matter if they are a different background or a different race or friends of different religions.

It's good to have lots of friends from lots of different backgrounds and cultures. Read books that talk about different races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. Visit museums that tell about different races, cultures and religions. Celebrate cultural events and attend church services with friends of different religions. Invite others to share my culture and religious activities.

Prejudice is something that we have always had but something that we must try hard to get rid of. Everybody can make a difference in fighting prejudice by just having the courage to stand up against anything wrong being done.
