Confronting Prejudice
by Joshua M.

There are lots of different kinds of people in the world, from lots of different races and cultures. Some believe different from others. Some have different religions. Some look different. Some are tall or short or fat or skinny. Sometimes people aren't very respectful of people's differences. This paper tells about how bad it is for people to judge others and not be respectful and tolerant.

Two people of different backgrounds together as friends.
The following are different concepts about intolerance:

Prejudice is a judgment or opinion formed without due examination of the facts. An example is how some people in the South still have prejudice against African Americans.

Two Japanese Americans locked up in an internment camp after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Predilection is a preference for a group, culture, language, etc. Stereotype is a belief that all people in a group have similar characteristics and behaviors. An example is that all NFL players are mean and strong. Discrimination is not treating groups or individuals equally because of their race, religion, or other factors. An example is that the neighborhood boys club does not let girls join.
