Music was popular in Medieval times.  It was played at many festive occasions, such as Christmas, Easter, and Corpus Christi.
There were many different types of instruments.  Some were organs ( a type of piano ), harps ( a type of string instrument ) and trumpets ( a brass instrument ).  There were also shawms(a type of oboe), and  pipes.
Organs are pipe instruments that have a very deep sound and are usually used in operas.
Harps are string instruments that have a mellow sound.  They are sometimes used in wedding music.
Trumpets are brass instruments that have a bold sound.  They are also used in weddings and marching bands, too.
Shawms are woodwind instruments that have a double reed, like oboes.
Flutes or piccolos were played at lots of occasions.  They have a sweet mellow sound.
