Quilts

In the story, Mrs. Tyler (Andrew's mom) made a quilt with a tumble block design on it for Andrew's bed.

To many people, quilts are more than just a warm blanket. To some people, quilts are like giant scrapbooks made from leftover fabric, old furniture, or just a favorite dress.

Quilts also can tell stories. A quilt could tell of a family vacation, or maybe a special place. Quilts can tell stories of all sorts of events.

Another thing quilts do is help remember friends, loved ones, or events. A famous quilt is the AIDS memorial Quilt, which was made to remember those who passed away because of AIDS. Each square was made to represent the one who died. Eleven years after it was started, there was over 41,000 squares of fabric for this quilt. Now, pieces of the quilt are displayed in schools and libraries all around the world. See how important quilts can actually be?
