Battle
of the Wilderness
Many different physical and human geographical factors have
influenced major historical events and movements. One way
was that they helped to change the outcome of a war or battle.
One battle was the Battle of the Wilderness. The battle started
at Saunders's Field, a clearing in the forest on May 5, 1864.
During the battle dry grass and leaves caught fire, and soon
the flames consumed the clearing. It was hard to get in to
help the injured. People both dead and alive burned.
Slavery
A human factor that influenced major historical movements
was the need for cheap labor, so people captured Africans
and brought them to North and South and Europe. The Africans
were enslaved and treated harshly. They were whipped, beaten,
used to do house work and fieldwork, and had terrible living
conditions.
Wind
and Ocean Currents
Wind and ocean currents are another geographic factor that
has influenced historical events. They cause ships to move
faster in certain directions. If someone looses control of
their ship then the wind or ocean currents could move them
to a new place and cause them to discover a new continent.
Pysical
and Human Geographical Factors
A few things influenced by physical and human geographic were
the Battle of the Wilderness, capturing Africans as slaves,
and wind and ocean currents.
