China's Government Before the Renaissance
There are many different political, social, and economic institutions that characterize the aspects of Eastern and Western civilizations. One country in the East is China. Now China is communist but before the Renaissance it was ruled by emperors.

India's Caste System
Also in the east is India, which has a Caste System. The Caste System is the pattern of social classes in Hinduism. It is a community who has something in common such as religion, language, similar geographic background, origin, etc. Marriage occurs within each group. The higher groups have more strict diets then the lower ones. Your community is determined by birth and cannot be changed. The law has been changed so you are allowed to move up in society in India but according to the system you are supposed to be happy in your place.

American Indian Chiefs
Many of the tribes were ruled by chiefs. The chiefs usually were the rule makers and determined what a tribe did. The also listened to what other people had to say, too. The chiefs many times led the warriors into battle. A lot of times he was a famous warrior.
