Description of Motion

Got your body in motion! Learn how to describe an object in motion.

When Is an Object in Motion?
An object is in motion when its distance from another object is changing. Every object on Earth is moving because Earth is rotating around the sun. We are moving about 30 kilometers every second. That is fast enough to travel from New York City to Los Angeles in about 2 minutes.

Reference Point
Whether or not an object is in motion depends on your chosen reference point.
