Number Representation

In these few pages we represent very useful information in a fun way by expressing it with amusement parks!

Example
Fraction &Decimal

If half of a mary go round is built, how much more is left?

1 half

If .5 of the mary go round is built, how much do you have left to build?

.5

Percents
This time if 50% of the mary go round is built, how much more do you have to build?

50%

Scientific Notaion, Exponents, & Radical
If Disney bought 100,000ft of Universal Studio's property than the equivilenceto that would be v100,000=316.227, 100·10ˆ3=100,000, =316.227ˆ2
(v=radical sybol)

Absolute Value
If you are on a roller coaster and the coaster makes a -50 ft. drop, what is the absolute value of that drop?

50 ft.

Sunshine State Standards 6-8

Mathematics/Number Sense, Concepts and Operations

The student understands the different ways numbers are represented and used in the real world (MA.A.1.3).

Objective 4: Understands that numbers can be represented in a variety of equivalent forms, including integers, fractions, decimals, percents, scientific notation, exponents, radicals, and absolute value.

Amusement Park Activity

Big Test- Math is everywhere you already know that but for these specifac mathematical expressions (radicals, exponents, and scientifac notation) your mostly going to use it with rather large numbers but it can also be used with small numbers too.
Small Number
Count how many students there are in you class and put that number in Radicals, Exponents, and Scientifac Notation
Large number
Next time you visit a theme park the first ride you ride put it the number of people in front of you in Scientifac Notation, Exponents, and Radicals.

Did you know?
That Florida has 15
amusement parks?
