Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division

Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing are all easy to you right now, but we take it a little deeper with amusement parks!

Addition
If Joel was at an amusement park and bought a chicken leg for $5.00 then bought a souvenir for $18.50 he also purchased a $2.75 pretzel what was Joel's total expense.
$18.50 $18 2/4
$2.75 $2
+$5.00

$26.25

Subtraction

Joel then got a 50 dollar bill. He spent $7.00 on the family photo, and spent another 5 dollars on pretzels. How much money does Joe-L have left?

$50.00
-7.00
$43.00
-5.00
$33.00

Multiplication

If Joel goes on the Spatial Sense Splash on Math Mountain, and begins travelling at 10.7 miles per hour, and his speed increases by 3.6 percent, how fast is he going now?

38.52 miles per hour

Division

If Joe-L is on the Data Tracks and he slows down from 30 mph by 15 %, how slow is he going now?

25.5 miles per hour

Positive and Negative Inverse Relationship
If the temperature at night before Justin went to sleep was -5° but when Justin woke up it was +25° how much did the temperature increase overnight?

+30°

Sunshine State Standards 6-8

Mathematics/Number Sense, Concepts and Operations

Standard 3: The student understands the effects of operations on numbers and the relationships among these operations, selects appropriate operations, and computes for problem solving (MA.A.3.3).

Objective 1: Understands and explains the effects of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on whole numbers, fractions, including mixed numbers and decimals, including the inverse relationships of positive and negative numbers.

Amusement Park Activity

Amusment Slow-down- Go to an amusment park and estimate the speed of the rides. Which rides are the fastest? What percent faster is the fastest ride than the slowest?

.Brainstorming Fun

Temperate Temperatures- In the
middle of winter, walk outside at
night and take the temperature
before you go to bed. Wake up and
retake the temperature in the
morning. How much did it rise?

Vocabulary

Addition- the act or process of adding

Decimal- a linear ray of integers
that represents a fraction

Division- the act or process of division

Fraction- a disconnected piece

Including- to take part in

Inverse- 1.reversed in order.
2. Anime character.

Mixed Number- it consist of an
integer and a fraction or decimal

Multiplication- the act or process
of multiplying

Negative Number- a number below
zero

Positive Number- a number above
zero

Relationship-The condition or fact
of being related

Subtraction- the act or process of
subtaction
