Scale Drawings

Sentence on Scale Drawings...

General, this time they are saying they won't give you your middle school diploma if you don't know how to read maps and number lines. Easy stuff, don't fret it. Say you have a problem that says: 5+-6. Using a this numberline, solve the problem.

-6__-5__-4__-3__-2__-1__0__1__2__3__4__5

If you ended up on -1, good job. You can always find out which side on the number line your answer is going to be by comparing the numbers. The greater numbers sign is the side you'll be on. Using the same exact number line , try this -6+4. If you ended up on -2 you've got this down.

Maps. Again, easy. When using maps you have to pay very close attention to key, usually a small subset that gives you the scale of the map, along with other things depending on the type of map. Look at this map:

Now, how far is it, according to the scale, from Chinatown to Callahan? St. Marks to Fort Staunton? If you answered 45 mi for the first and 20 mi for the second, good job. Now try Fort Staunton to Portland View . 50 mi would be correct . IF you got every thing right i'd say your ready for the activity.

Amusement Park Activity

Big final test:

Ha! Bet you did'nt see this coming! The final question: In a theme park, you get a map like this one shown below. IF the scale for this map is 10 meters an inch, how many meters is it from the ice cream stand to the hot dog vendor.
