Representing and Applying Geometric Properties

Learn to use background knowledge and text structure to make complex predictions.

Explanation

This is simply an explanation on how you use volume, area, and perimeter in real life. Simple enough.

How you use area

Your Mrs. Wubbena and your buying a $500,000 beachfront house (hehe). You want to know how big it is. This is how you would use area, in either square feet, or square meters. So, your also buying a house with a side that measures 60 feet and another side that measures 120 feet. How many square feet is your house? 7,200ftsquared sounds about right.

How you use perimeter

You would use perimeter if you were putting in a fence. Say you need to cover a square yard with a legnth of 7 meters. How many meters of fence do you need to buy? 28 meters

How you would use volume

You could use volume if you were putting a koi pond in your back yard, like lucky old Matt. If the pond has a legnth of 7 meters, a width of 10 meters, and a depth of 2 meters, what is the volume? 140 cubic meters is correct.

Sunshine State Standards 6-8

Math/Geometry and Spatial Sense

Standard 3: The student uses coordinate geometry to locate objects in both two and three dimensions and to describe objects algebraically (MA.C.3.3).

Objective 1: Understands how to represent and apply geometric properties and relationships to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
