Properties and Relationships of Geometric Shapes

Learn about properties and relationships within these pages in amusement parks!

Regular 2 - Dimension Objects
If you go to a movie theatre and watch a movie, the screen that you have just watched the movie on is a regular 2 dimensional object. Or if your just watching a movie or playing video games, the screen that you were just playing or watching something on is a 2 dimensional object. You can also just be working on your computer and believe it or not, but the plane on the screen that

all the stuff you are watching and working on, is a 2 dimesional object. If you go to Universal Studios and go on the ride Hannah Barbara the screen that you have been watching the movie on is a 2 dimensional object.

Regular 3 - Dimension Objects
3 - dimension objects is a very broad topic, but we will explain it the best we can. Every single day you see 3 - dimensional objects. Such as houses and bulidings. Everything in the outdoors is a 3 - dimensional object, but not everything outdoors is a regular 3 - dimensional object. For example: One day you are walking along the sidewalk and you see a skysraper, you have just witnessed a regular 3 dimensional object. If you go to Islands of Adventure and go on the roller coaster the Incredible Hulk, the cart that you are sitting in is a regular 3 dimensional object.

Irregular 2 - Dimension Objects
Unlike regular 2 demension objects, irregular 2 dimesion objects are not planes or platforms or anything like that but it is the images or photos or camera shots on the plane or or platform. So if you are watching Spongebob Squarepants and you see spongebob on the screen, that is an irregular 2 dimension object. Say you are playing Simpson't Road Rage and you see homer on the screen, that is also an irregular 2 dimensional object. Say your watching a movie and you see Sandra Bullock on the T.V., in that form of her on a television she is an irregular 2 dimensional object.

Irregular 3 - Dimension Objects
Irregular 3 dimensional objects are all over the place!!! Outside, inside, and even outer space. If you are watching T.V. the only 3 dimensional object is the T.V. it self. If your playing a video game the only 3 dimensional object is the T.V. it self. If your watching a ,ovie, again the only 3 dimensional object is the T.V. it self again. If you go to Islands of Advneture and go on the roller coaster the Incredible Hulk, you have just been on an irregular 3 dimensional ride.

Sunshine State Standards 6-8

Math/Geometry and Spatial Sense

Standard 1: The student describes, draws, identifies, and analyzes two- and three-dimensional shapes (MA.C.1.3).

Objective 1: Understands the basic properties of, and relationships pertaining to, regular and irregular geometric shapes in two and three dimensions.

Amusement Park Activity

Finding Geometric Shapes - Go
to an amusement park and try to
find as many geometric shapes
as you can. Such as Carts on rolercoasters (rectangle) or you could find balloons (Sphere). or an ice cream cone (cone). If you eat a piece of pizza (triangle). If you have a digital camera or any camera you can take pictures of these digital shapes or you can just draw them on a pice of paper.

Brainstorming Fun

Problems:
How many geometric figures are in
this Sphere?

Is this sphere, really a sphere?

Vocabulary

Geometric - Of or relating to
properties in algebraic
geometry involving
algebraically closed fields.

Dimensions -
The least number of
independant coordinates
required to specify uniquely the
points ina space.
