DATA ANALYSIS and PROBABILITY

Uses of Statistical Analysis

Learn to use background knowledge and text structure to make complex predictions.

Probability

Probabilities are used a lot in the space program. 10 in 100 chances of landing, 1 in 5 for a mistake, that kind of thing. Sports also use them sometimes, like during March Madness, saying that a certain team has a 1 in 20 chance of making it to the final four, or saying Tiger Woods has a 1 in 2 chance of winning the masters.

Its often misused when people use the likelyhood of something and the improper guess is made.

Statistics

Stats are always used in sports. Baseball for example. Batting average, slugging percentage, ERA. It's also used in baskeball, like the Free Throw Percentage, or Three Pointers.

A place where it is used absolutely everyday except on the weekend is (not school, but...) the Stock Market. Gains, losses, the whole nine yards.

Statistics are misused when people don't read the stats correctly and the improper idea of the stats is created.
