Pharaoh Head Attire

Upper Egypt
To make the white crown of upper we wrapped several layers of waxed paper around the head going up higher with each row. To decorate the crown we painted a wooden disk gold. The disk and feathers were glued onto the front of the crown.

Lower Egypt
The red crown of Lower Egypt was made  by simply cutting a large piece of poster board. The snake was cut from a piece of felt and glued into place. We drew the snake's features with markers.

Here the two crowns are wore together to show the joined kingdoms of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Nemes
The pharaoh never went without a headdress. This is the casual head attire called a nemes. It was made from a stiff piece of fabric, felt, and aluminum foil. The snake was formed from foil and glued onto the front of the nemes.
