cake1.jpg (18229 bytes) We had a great time making an Egyptian cake. We made the pyramid from puffed rice cereal and marshmallows, the Nile River from green sugar, and ships from oranges and cookies.

We also made a hippo by using three pears for the head and body. We used miniature marshmallows for the teeth, a sesame stick for the tail, and cloves for the nose and eyes. The ears were made from fruit leather.

To the left

We made the cobra from a piece of rainbow fruit leather. The head eyes, and tongue were additional pieces of fruit leather which we cut out and stuck in place. Finally we "wove" the cobra onto a drinking straw.

The pyramid cake above is our own creation. The ideas for the hippo and cobra came from Crayola Kids magazine. See our Resources section for more information.
