Born in 1898, Katherine Blodgett was the inventor of eyeglasses. These contraptions were invented in the late 1930’s. This invention was used to enhance vision for those who needed them. This took about 4 years to accomplish but it was worth it because eyeglasses are still very popular today. This invention used monolecular coverings over metal or plastic.
Katherine was the first female scientist to work at the general electric laboratory in Schenectady, New York, assisting Dr. Langmuir.
