Cathy Guisewite

Cathy Guisewite is the creator of the comic "Cathy". She was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Midland, Minnesota. She attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Cathy made this comic because her mother advised her to send in humiliating drawings of her miserable love life to "Universal Press Syndicate" in 1976. She didn't want to name it "Cathy," but did. "Cathy" debuted in papers in November 1976.

She is a member of National Cartoonists Society. She is married and lives in Los Angeles with a dog named Trolly. Her husband is screenwriter and director, Chris Wilkinson. Cathy also has a daughter and stepson.

Cathy does her best writing while listening to depressing music and eating M and M's. She works out of her home studio. She also does her own writing and artwork, but two assistants do the rest. She has twelve books published by Andrews and McMeal. She has lots of products on the market. Her most inspirational real-life models are her mom and dad.
