Moons. The satellites of planets. From the Galilean Moons to the Shepherds Moons of Saturn. There is a total of 63 moons in our Solar System. Most of these moons are found in the Outer Planets of the Solar System. The planets are often placed into two groups. The two groups are known as the Inner Planets and the Outer Planets. The Inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. The Inner planets are solid rocklike bodies and are often referred to as the Terrestrial planets. Not all Inner Planets have moons. Mercury and Venus have no moons. Earth has one moon and Mars has two. The Outer planets consist of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. All of the Outer planets have at least one moon. The largest moon in the Solar System is Ganymede, one of Jupiter's 16 moons.
