For numerous unfortunate souls these were the surroundings that they lived in all day, every day. Thousands of innocent lives were forever shattered by a mere act of hatred. These victims of hatred had everything taken away from them. Their family and possessions never seen again. They were shaved of their hair and their clothing stripped from their bodies. Many were forced to work; some died of starvation or from the mass executions, others were sent to the gas chambers. Those who survived until the liberation were dead of everything but their flesh. Their minds could never forget the pain, starvation, and toture they endured. Their homes and families ruined. Nothing to live for. Hopeless.

Whenever I would say that my parents were survivors of the
Holocaust, people would look at me oddly and say, "Oh, I didn't
know you were Jewish?" I realized that most people were not
aware of any other Holocaust victims except Jews. This
concerned me.
