Symbol of a Ring

| A ring can mean many things. In some countries, the finger you wear your ring on tells people about you. Your thumb is your willpower finger. If you wear your ring on your thumb some view you as one with a strong will. If you wear your ring on your index finger (the finger next to the thumb), your ring is on your authority finger. You may be one that likes to have things your way or you're someone of high political or social standards. Your ring finger (right next to the pinkie) is your creativity finger. I wear my ring on my ring finger. I'm quite creative. You have a wide imagination. Your little (pinkie) finger is your relationship finger. You are open and loving.
In our book, A Solitary Blue, the rings don't symbolize what type of person you are but value. The value of love. You see, there are two rings, a jade and a diamond. The diamond ring has no real value of the heart. It's symbols are money and selfishness. The jade ring is the real treasure. It symbolizes love and sentimental value. It's value is in the heart, not the money. In the book the jade ring is the main ring. It's the jade ring that Melody, Jeff mother seems to be after. To her the jade has a lot of value. She thinks that since her grandmother loves it so much it must have some kind of money-like value. In the very end of the novel, Melody comes to Jeff (he had inherited the diamond) and demands the diamond. It turns out that the jade wasn't worth a penny. She takes the diamond and plans to sell it. In the end the reader and Jeff notices how Melody doesn't know the meaning of sentimental value. |
