How does the blue heron relate to A Solitary Blue?

We first meet the blue heron when Jeff goes to the island in Charleston, South Carolina. At first the blue heron and Jeff are on rocky territory with each other. Then Jeff starts to become more and more like the Blue Heron in the fact that he doesn't want to be bothered and he likes spending time by himself. In a way they are like unspoken friends.
