Purpose: Built to supply water while a large water pipeline from the mainland was under construction, this plant operated continually for 18 months, then has been on standby for several years. It is currently being rebuilt and upgraded so it can be used in case of emergencies. The plant is being separated into two facilities: a two-mgd plant in Key West and a one-mgd plant on Marathon Island.
