Fauna

Fauna world of the national park is diverse and very rich. In area of park 20 types of biotops can be distuingished. The most numerous groups as per number of species and specimens are insects, especially carabid beetles f.e. Carabus croaticus, Carabus creutzeri etc. More than 80 species of butterflies are registered in the park area. The one of very common species is Iphiclides podalirius.

As per amhibians and reptiles 27 of species are registered in national park area.

Birds world is represented by 97 nest species and 209 bird species are registered in the large area of national park. Peregrine Falcon Hawk (Falco peregrinus) nest in canyon of Velika and Mala Paklenica. The number of Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus) decline of the cattle breed on the Velebit mountain and more often poisoning actions against predators, especially wolfs, led to extinction of Griffon vulture. Sparrow hawk (Accipiter nisus) is scarce nest bird of pine forests. Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a song bird very often to find along the coast during winter months. Very common nests birds is Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio).
