Fauna

Mild climate and rich vegetation are prerequisite conditions for an interesting and rich fauna.

You may find reptiles on the island: green lizard (Lacerta viridis), spinehead lizard (Lacerta oxyphala), plain lizard (Lacerta melisellensis), domestic gecko (Hemidactilus turcicus). Snakes have become spread thin (poisonous snakes are non-existant) since mongooses were brought in.

Then there are mammals: mouse (Apodemus mystacinus), hedgehog (Erinaceus europeus), more bat species (Chiroptera), plain doormouse (Glis glis), stone marten (Martes foina) and plain rabbit (Lepus europaeus). Fallow deer (Dama dama) was brought in onto the island after World War II, and wild boar (Sus scrofa) has been brought in just recently.
