ROCK AND
RAP. Today's chart music and dance rhythms have their roots in music of Black Americans- especially in the jazz and blues (sad, rhythmic songs) played in the saloon bars of New Orleans in the late 1800s. In the 1950s, Black guitar groups played frantic rock 'n' roll. When taken up by whites like Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley, it became the focus of many teenager's lives. In the 1960s, the simple pace of rock 'n' roll matured into the varied rock of groups like the Beatles. But by the 1990s, popular music was led once again by the energetic dance beats like rap and house that emerged from Black neighbourhoods in the 1980s.

Michael Jackson. Born in the year 1958 in one of Americas greatest musician Michael popularly known as Michael wacko Jackson because of his so to speak rubber mode of dancing which leaves the whole world breathless in wonder. His is also known for his physical appearance, and unprecedented success. Michael was born in Gary, Indiana, when he was five he joined his brothers in a singing band called the Jackson Five and then renamed to the Jackson's. He was also the group lead singer because of his outstanding singing and dancing ability. Under the sponsorship of musical producer Berry Gordy, the group became very popular.
His first solo album hit the world in 1971, which he called Got to be there this established him as a solo performer. He also left the family grow he also acted a musical film called The Wiz in which he played the Scarecrow and recorded an album "off the wall" in 1979, some of the songs in the album where Thriller which he did in 1982 which earned an unprecedented eight Grammy Awards and sold up to 40 million copies of his record making it the best-selling in its time. His videos "Beat it" and "Billie Jean" received and made him a popular performer at MTV. He then rejoined his brothers in a six month tour of their album "Victory" in 1984. He co wrote the Lionel Richie song "We Are the World" 1985, which he performed by a group of more than 40 popular musicians, with all profit donated to alleviate world hunger. He then released his album "Bad" in the year 1987. Then he later went on release also "Dangerous" in 1991. And the came the album "History", which contained some of his old songs like Thriller, Bad and Dangerous and some new compositions. He also won a Grammy for his video "Scream" 1995 which featured sister and fellow musician Janet Jackson. That same year he went on to marry Elvis Presley's Daughter Lisa Presley in 1994 and divorced.
Finally he was also known for his special and breathe taking move called Moonwalk. We can now truly say that Michael Jackson is one of the Beethoven's of his time.
Janet Jackson. Michael's younger sister who was born in 1966, she is one of the great American singers and actresses who is very talented.
She also was born in Gary, Indiana, she grow up seeing the growth of the Jackson 5 at the age of 3. She started her music career at the age of 7 in a family stage in Las Vegas, Nevada. She later played roles on the television shows "Good Times, ""Different Strokes," and "Fame."
She became very successful when she released the third album called "control" in 1986. In 1989 she released Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, a with a political theme which became a smash hit. She also went into acting starring in film Poetic Justice in 1993. And then the album "Velvet Rope." in 1997 and went to Europe and U.S. on tour in 1998.
Many of Jackson's songs have a strong dance beat, and she has achieved much of her popularity through live performances and rock videos that feature elaborate dance choreography. She also performs romantic ballads.
Whitney Houston. .. Born in 1963 an American pop-music star or superstar as some people would like to put it Whitney has stunned the World with her outstanding vocal abilities as shown in some of her musical videos. She was born into a musical family in Newark, New Jersey, daughter of Cissy Houston, a gospel music singer and former backup vocalist for Elvis Presley, her mother was also the cousin of Dionne Warwick. Whitney began her career in a church choir at the age of 11 years. As a teenage she featured as a backup for such rhythm-and-blues (R&B) singers as Chaka Khan and Lou Rawls. She also acted a small role in a TV. programs. Her first album came in 1985 which topped the charts a number of times, but, one particular song earned her a Grammy Award in 1986. The next album came in 1987, which won her a second Grammy Award in 1988, for the song "I wanna Dance with somebody (who Loves Me)," and she became the first pop singer to sell ten million copies each of her first two albums.
In 1990 she released another album called "I'm Your Baby Tonight," the next year she married Bobby Brown. In 1992 Houston scored enormous motion-picture success, staring opposite American actor Kevin Costner in Bodyguard. She also supplied the sound track for the movie, "I Will Always Love You" which was a remix of the 1974 classic by American-country-music singer and songwriter Dolly Parton. She also got another Grammy in 94 and four major honours; by then she had established herself as the top-selling vocalist of the early 90s. She also starred in a film called Waiting to Exhale and the next year starred with Denzel Washington in Preacher's Wife in which she also supplied the soundtrack. She in now a fully established singer.
JENNIFER LOPEZ. Born in the Brox's originally from Puerto Rico who was brought to America by her two parents, All her life she has always like singing and dancing which was taught her by her parents. In the end her parents didn't support her when she wanted to be a singer then they sent her out of the house, she then went to dancing school and after that she had some bad times where she had no money and was almost sent out of her apartment because of her rent but, now she is one of the worlds leading musicians and actresses. She is also a Grammy.
