South point, also known as "green sands beach"
is where the ancient Hawaiians first landed when they came to Hawaii. South
Point is named so because it is the southern most point in the United States.
It is very windy at South Point and the electric company has used this to
their advantage by placing windmills there. The drive to the actual Green
Sand beach is only possible in 4-wheel drive and should not be attempted in
a normal vehicle. If you can reach the beach you must then hike down a path
a short ways to reach it.
