1969 Unix

Unix was developed at AT&T Bell Labs over 25 years ago and remains a leading operation system today. The effort began when the lab withdrew from another operating system project called MULTICA. Ken Thompson, a Bell Labs scientist, started the new system a spare Digital minicomputer. The Unix name was derived from the MULTICS prject from which the lab had withdrawn: "multi" became "uni" and "cs" became "x".
