1938 Electronic Digital Computers Z1 The first operational electronic digital computer, the Z, was created in Germany in 1938 by Konrad Zuse (1910-). However, since World War II was building at the time, this beakthrough was unknown by anyone outside Germany, and the machine was destroyed later in the war. Programs were read into the machine from 35mm movie film, punched wiht holes. Data was entered from a keyboard, and output was displayed with light bulbs. During the 1940s, Zuse went on to create improved models Z2 through Z4. |
